2015 New Year Resolution!
This post has potential to get a little emotional but i'm going to try my hardest to not make it that way! It's one week into January and I have yet to declare a New Year Resolution. This isn't because I have't been thinking about it but instead that I've been thinking too much about it! I want this year to be fantastic. I'm starting this year off in a better mental place then I've been in a really long time, and that's saying a lot considering I'm about to turn my little peaceful world upside down with this move. It hit me tonight though, my only goal for 2015 is to choose JOY!
During Christmas time I love nothing more than listening to Christmas music 24/7. Just so happens that my favorite station (89.3, KSBJ, christian station) plays Christmas songs all during the days leading up to Christmas. Whenever we were in the car and the kids weren't screaming for Mickey And Friends Christmas Carols we were listening to KSBJ. Their challenge for the month of December was to choose Joy! Numerous times a day they would repeat the phrase, “I need joy. And when I keep my eyes on Jesus, I have joy, When I lose it, I will choose it. I choose joy.”
In my bath tonight while pondering about my resolution that I had yet to come up with, it hit me. All those joy pledges I heard during the month of December came flooding back. Joy! I choose Joy! It seems like a perfect resolution for me for 2015. There are so many reasons why I know this year is going to be tough. I'm loosing my entire support system that I've been building for the last 6 years, i'm starting from scratch. I'm going to need Joy this year!
So how am I going to make this Joy Resolution attainable this year? I've got to find things that make me happy, and repeat... all year! :)
Things that bring me great joy!
Nick - finding a baby sitter sooner than later is a top priority after the move. I must fan the flame in my marriage to have true joy.
The Js- The kids will no longer be in school 10 hours a week, instead they will be home with me 24/7... instead of dreading this (which we all know really deep down I am) I want to be more intentional about spending time with them. The dishes, laundry and numerous house projects ahead can wait, my babies bring me joy!
Friends- I can not live without friends! I know many people have said "but you make friends so easily, you'll be fine!!" Making friends is not fun, it's uncomfortable, awkward and I don't enjoy it one bit but I do know it's absolutely essential to have Joy in my life.
Exercise and Nutrition- 2014 really opened my eyes to a lot of things in this area. It showed me I"m strong and can really do anything I truly set my mind to! I have found more joy this year through exercise than I ever though possible. And when I eat better, I feel better. I will continue to research nutrition while putting into play what I have learned and I will continue to make exercise a top priority in my life!
Last but certainly not least, You can not experience true joy without Jesus Christ. I've often found myself in the midst of crazy last few weeks wondering how people go through a huge life change without a personal relationship with God? For those non-believers where do you find your hope that everything is going to be ok? Where do you find your comfort in knowing you are never truly alone? How do you survive without being an emotional basketcase 99.9% of the time? I want to open up his word more, pray more, listen more, feel him more! He is the only one that absolutely provide me with Joy. This move sucks, it's necessary but it sucks. My head is overwhelmed with realization I"m about to start all over again. New friends, new doctors, new house, new EVERYTHING! I want to stomp my feet, curl up and cry like a little baby that I just don't want to do it... however somehow I've managed to keep it together. I have such a sense of a peace that even though I'm leaving my most bestest friend in the entire world who happened to just have had a baby that I can't believe I"m going to miss growing... it's going to be ok. Somehow, it's going to be ok! I've seem my darkest and brightest moments of life here in Houston. I've experienced pain after moving here I didn't know I could feel, and I've also experienced the miracle of life, twice within these state boundaries. A lot has happen here! I not only grew my family of 2 into 4, I grew my extended family into the hundreds, Ive experienced life with these friends. Yes I did the same thing in College, but in college friends came and went, they graduated and they changed majors, things now weren't like they were in college. I'm officially an adult now, and I've grown up a lot here in Houston... but it's going to be ok. “I need joy. And when I keep my eyes on Jesus, I have joy, When I lose it, I will choose it. I choose joy.”
