Baby Steps
I missed yesterday's "WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY." Lets face it, I really was dreading stepping on the sale after being away from home for a week and a half and eating whatever the hell I pleased! I did it this morning though, and although the number is way higher than I would like it to be, it wasn't over the top, give up now, stunning.
I mentioned that this blog is going to have a lot of brutal honesty in it... and it will, including pictures of my scale on weight in Wednesdays. However, I'm not quite ready for that yet. It's it a big enough step for me to take to start talking publicly about my weight loss goals, I'm going to try and wait on the weight for just a while.
I did something today though I wanted to document it. Something so small yet made me feel so accomplished. I haven't yet been to the grocery store after returning home, and before we left I played the "lets see how random of a dinner I can make with the ingredients I have around the house to use up before we leave" game. Needless to say, we have absolutely no food in the house. This is a huge NO NO for someone trying to watch their food intake. Nick made a lunch run, I begged for Panda Express to fill my month long craving of Chinese food. I knew this wasn't really the way I had hopped to start this new year, but it was what was happening. I promised myself before he got back, I would eat half! Only half! AND I DID! This was a huge accomplishment for me and something I had to be totally aware of, but I did it!
If you're a mom you know how most of my meal times go. Prepare kids food, test kids food for hot/coldness by eating a bite, give kids food, get kids drinks, get napkin for kid that spills, take kid to the bathroom, wipe kids butt, wash 2 sets of hands, return to table, attempt to prepare your food, get yourself drink, save a piece of food from falling on the floor and place in mouth because you are too lazy to trash it, wipe kids down, send kids off to play, sit down to eat and notice all your food is gone.... So did I eat, or just forget to put food on my plate? I struggle with this a lot. It's mindless eating at it's finest. Meal times are so busy for me, I have no idea what I'm putting into my mouth. Half the times I never actually sit to eat a meal, and when I do I scarf it so fast I don't even taste it.
So, for my first challenge of the year I'm challenging myself to be aware of MY food. Know exactly what I'm putting into my mouth, how much is on my plate, and how much I'm actually eating. Stop eating off the kids plates, and enjoy my own food. I'm going to teach myself how to taste food! It's gonna be a good year!
